Angry Unit won't defrost
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SXD25S2L
Age: 5 - 10 years

This unit won't defrost, so I'm having to do it manually with a hair dryer. I thought the problem was the defroster timer. I checked it per the procedure given as referral on one of the other posts using an ohmmeter from terminal 3 and checked all other terminals. All of them read open. I then moved it to the defrost and checked them again, and they still read open. I replaced the defroster timer, and the defroster element still doesn't heat up. It's freezing up solid at the top half. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Unhappy Additional Info.

At first, when it quit, the water in the door wouldn't work and the fridge was cool but not cold. After unplugging and setting for a while, the freezer freezes up and the fridge is cool but not cold. i noticed after the first rest and hair dryer defrost, it was blowing cold air out the outlet in the top of the freezer compartment. there is no air comming out the outlet now. Help!!!! If i don't get this fixed soon the mean old lady that lives here, (my wife) is gonna "cut my water off and take my meter out". Please Help!!!!

The procedures in the following link tells another way to check the timer and also the defrost heaters. You manually turn to the defrost mode and watch to see if the heaters come on to melt the ice. In the defrost mode the compressor turns off and heaters come on. The lower heater could work without the upper heater working if you have two.Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Defrost Timer - ACME HOW TO.com
