Default Top freezer leaks
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.74202401
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a Kenmore/Whirpool for less than two years. After one year and 3 weeks, the Control User Interface module had to be changed (told by Sears Repair, price $675). I purchased from Whirpool directly the part for $125 and replaced it myself. The same problem is reoccuring. Water is dripping from the top freezer into the refrigerator. A month ago, I took everything out of the freezer and using steam water defrosted an unlocked the drain with a rubber coated wire. Could the problem be a faulty thermostat for the defrost system. The front buttom of the freezer or top front of the refrigerator from time to time is hot and I believe this is where the heating elements for the defrost cycles are located. I need help first with the diagnostic, second with the part or parts needed and third with the location of the part or parts to change. In advance, many thanks,
Serge

Could not find info on your unit. Please double check the Model Number

The defrost heater is on the freezer coils. See 18 below.

Sounds like defrost is OK you just have a plugged drain hose
See 21 below.
Sometimes dust etc. can clog it at the bottom of the fridge at the evaporator tray
Otherwise use a turkey baster or some tubing to blow through to clear it
Once clear run about a 15% bleach solution through it to kill any crud that is growing there

Here is a good link to fridge info
Take a look at # 18 and 21

Hello there:
First, I cleaned the drain pipe about a month ago and the water was running free from the freezer compartment to the water tray. Second it looks to me that the leak is due to the fact that water freezes in the freeezer and start dripping while the defrost cycle is on. The problem looks like the exit water hole is freezing.
The Kenmore Cold Spot is made by Whirpool. here is another # ES2725675 and the Control User Interface Module is that I had previously purchased from Whirpool is # 820 1735. I hope this will be of help to you. Thanks.
P.S. How do I go to look at # 18 & # 21???
