Default Ticking noise
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.79272993
Age: 5 - 10 years

My fridge has been making a ticking noise sometimes when it starts and stops cooling. The system is working. Last night it made a 10second scratching noise before it started to cool.

I was thinking a relay near the compressor ?

Repair ideas?

Thank you

If the relay is clicking you should replace it.

Here is the relay for your fridge.

I'm not sure, I haven't had it apart to detect the noise origin.

Could their be other causes?

Thank you

If the noise is coming from the back it is likely the relay.

Hi,

I have the same POP sound whenever the fridge shuts-off. Did you fix the problem with your refrigerator by changing the relay?

I really don't believe the start relay could case this kind of a noise. It could be metal tubing rattling or internal compressor noise. Best to temporarily take back panel off and start the fridge running and look for the source.
