Smile Supply line to water dispenser freezing
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSS25XSNA BS
Age: 5 - 10 years

This is a side by side with the water and ice dispensers on the outside of the left door (freeaer door). The unit is 5 years old. after 4 1/2 years, suddenly, no water would come out of the drinking water unit. In addition, even with the refrigerator temp control set at 1 or so, the refrigerator section was so cold in spots that vegetable s would freeze.
I turned the temp controls off for both the freezer and the refrigerator and cracked the doors for about 2 hours and the water the dispenser was completely free flowing as normal, which tells me that there was Ice in the line.
Turned both the freezer and the refrigerator back to normal (5) and within a few hours, both problems returned.
I have scanned the question and answer section and while I don't find my particular model listed, I see were water freezing in the tube to the water dispenser is common and I see were some folks have had problems with the Temp. control for the refrigerator unit not allowing the door between the freezer and the refrigerator that allows cold air to enter the refrigerator to open and close properly. It would only make sense to me that the two problems that I am having, are related.
I do not see any door between the freezer section and the refrigerator, but I do see 2 slotted plastic parts that stick out a ways into the refrigerator on the freezer side of the refrigerator.. Could this be the 'doors' they are refering to on this unit.
By the way, the ice maker works fine so I know that it is not a water supply problem. I also removed the filter (replaced with plug) to eliminate the filter as a problem.
So, are the problems related and if so how is it fixed. If they are not related, how is it fixed.
Thanks to all for considering the problem.

The evaporator fan in the freezer blows the air through the opening you're talking about and circulates the air evenly. It should be at the top back inside of freezer going to fridge.

Thanks Woodchuck,
Am I to understand that you think the fan you referred to is not working and if so how do I test to see if it is or not.
I have received one other suggestion and that is that I should take off the inside back panel in the freezer compartment, exposing the coils. If they are surrounded with ice, the problem is most likely that the electrical sensor at the top of coils has ceased to work and does not tell the compressor when it is cold enough and therefore does not shut it off. Suggsted solution was to unplug the unit and let it thaw completely, replace the sensor and restart the unit. Could this be part of the problem or do you think it is just the fan?
Thanks.

If the fan is not working , that is definitely a problem. It should be running when the compressor is. Find and check evaporator fan here. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Evaporator Fan - ACME HOW TO.com

If it works I believe the damper (door that opens and closes to adjust fridge temp.) would be the most likely problem. It could be mechanical problem or ice blockage or control board problem keeping it from closing.

In this diagram the evaporator fan is 613. GSS25XSNA Parts List
