Default Stand alone ice maker
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: jim 1550 arb
Age: 1 - 4 years

suspect electrical problem...20 month old ice maker bought brand new not making ice...went thru troubleshooting manual both included w/unit and on-line..ice is formed on evaporator plate and will not drop onto cutting grid /low voltage/..ice seems thicker than it shud be..physically removed ice onto grid and grid would not cut into cubes...took all parts out i could..thoroughly cleaned inside of unit..ran 2 solutions of ice maker cleaner thru 2-40 minute cycles..everything shined--free of impurities..ran an ice cycle again and results same..not dropping..thick..not cutting..also..noted high amount of frost on evap plate 2 days after ice removal..like an old freezer that need defrosting..this seems like a sensor problem on the evap plate and no voltage for the cutting grid..any ideas appreciated..thanks

Default

Check the thermistor on the evaporator and make sure it is making contact with the evaporator.

Check to make sure that the condenser is free of dust and air is flowing freely.

Make sure the condenser fan is running.

Here is a link to your ice maker model jim1550arb.

Default stand alone ice maker....repaired

a wonderful note of thanks esp to sheila...master tech....
turns out the metal piece that attached to the evaporator plate had become unglued....no contact...when i cleaned the unit..the thermister had fell behind the pump unit..so nothing looked out of place...i found the thermister on close inspection..then found that it had freed itself from the evap..plate...i used j b weld and reattached it to the plate...anyway the ice moves off the evap plate and the grid cuts the ice...so cubes now as usual...this saved me a tech call bill plus at least 1 hr of service charge...i am so grateful...u guys know your stuff..really learned from the schematics also....thanks and have a wonderful thanksgiving
