Red face SIDEbySIDE Divider WALL is HOT to touch
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: CSX27D
Age: More than 10 years

My side by side DIVIDER WALL (between the Freezer compartment and Refridgerator Right side) IS HOT TO THE TOUCH, so it seems the DEFROST CYCLE IS RUNNING QUITE OFTEN. After 10 minutes or so, it will cool off, then I go back an hour later or so and it is HOT AGAIN.

Recently, the liquids in my refridgerator unit started getting layers of ice occassionally. So, my husband and I moved our refridgerator from the wall to do the ANNUAL vacuum to remove lint and dust from the COILS and works of this unit. We removed the kick plate (front) and the cardboard cover in the back and thoroughly vacuumed the debris.
NOW things are melting and thawing in the freezer...ice is semi-melting and milk, produce and meats are cold but not as they should be. I tried turning up the gauges on each the FREEZER to "E" and the regridgerator to "7"...still same temp's... What would you say needs replaced.... DEFROST TIMER or are we losing FREON?
I hope to hear some helpful solutions... Hubby is quite the mechanic but refrideration can be tricky. We await your suggestions! Thanks so MUCH!

The wall is hot because the heat is not being removed from your unit. It's because the condenser fan behind the cardboard is not running when the compressor is on OR because the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer is covered with ice not letting the evaporator fan circulate the air properly.

The latter indicates a defrost system failure.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

THANKS SO MUCH! When we took the back panel off we saw that the plug to the FAN for the compressor was NOT plugged in properly. We jiggled the plug and the fan started running! Must have bumped it during the cleaning...We will monitor its progress...if it still does not cool or freeze properly, we will then go the route of the defrost timer, defrost heater, or defrost thermostat... THANKS FOR YOUR KINDNESS and consideration in assisting us with our problem.
