Default Side by side refrig making moaning sound
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH25JFRF
Age: 1 - 4 years

Seems like the fan on the freezer side is on a rheostat and someone turns the voltage up and then down making the fan speed up and slow down. Some times it sounds like wind blowing around the corner making a moaning sound or howling. Oh by the way it is cooling and freezing fine just making a weird noise. Unit is about 1.5 years old. Someone told me it is the Main Controller Board GE's part number is WR55X10552. Does this sound right and has anyone else had the same problem. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Replace the mother board in the rear. That is where the moaning is coming from. If you need further instruction, you can reach me on my web site at ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks for your replies.I'm waiting for the board to arrive.
In order to connet all the connectors is it better to install the board first or the connectors first and than the board?

I replaced the board yesterday and howling is gone.
Turbo cool light on temp control panel was constantly on before and turbo fan only worked intermittently since board replacement light only comes on when turbo cool button is pushed to on and turbo fan works normal now.
I connected all the connectors before installing the board on the plastic stand-offs so no chance of breaking any of them.
These forums are great help I wouldn't be able to fix my refrigerator without your help thanks to everyone.

Default Main Board and Moaning

I have already had the main board replaced in my GE side by side and guess what in a few months it started moaning again. Does anyone have any ideas? I think it is the Evap motor now which is what i thought it was then.

Howling could only be the board, or the evap motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
