My fridge stopped working a few days ago. I have asked numerous people and consulted numerous forums...(just reviewing others problems, never posting my own question) and I can not seem to get an answer to my specific problem.

I originally thought the heating of the freezer may be caused by a defrost system failure, but this does not appear to be the case as I have removed the panel in the back of the freezer and there is not ice build up- in fact the coils do not seem to be cold at all really.

All of the air in the unit seems to be circulating properly ie: both the condenser fan in the back of the fridge is blowing out and the evaporation fan in the back of the inside of the freezer is also working, so there is air flow.

When the unit is plugged in , what I believe to be the compressor, makes 2 clicking noises every few minutes about fifteen seconds apart and does not appear to do anything. BUT- also every few minutes it appears that the compressor DOES turn on, but only runs for about 1 minute exactly, and then shuts off, in no way delivering enough cooling power to freeze the freezer.

While all this is happening the condenser fan at the back of the fridge runs the whole time, and the compressor does not appear to get excessively hot, if it even warms up at all within that minute it runs.

I want to make sure I do everything I can short of replacing the compressor (or more) before I cough up between 800 and 1200 bucks on a new fridge.

If you need anymore info, let me know.

I need to know if it could still be a simple fix.

Thanks for your help

You can check the overload protector and capacitor and the compressor here.

It's my guess it's the compressor.

Default Thanks for your help.

It was the compressor, and I decided to replace it with a new used fridge that I am now having trouble with as well. The Water dispenser in the door stays running and would flood my kitchen if I would let it.

I posted this in another topic.

But, I really do thank you for your help!
