Default Side by Side constantly running
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SCD25tl
Age: More than 10 years

My Amana refrigerator in my garage seems to run continuously and I've noticed some items not fully frozen. The refrigerator side seems OK. I find this odd, because it's been pretty cold, so I'm thinking it wouldn't need to work so hard.
I removed the back panel (thanks to the great diagnostic tips on this site!) and did see some frost on the top 1 or 2 coils and the thermostat were frosted over. I turned the timer and the defrost heater did come on and defrost everything. It came back on itself and the coils and thermostat are already frosted over again (20 minutes later) and it is in continuous run mode again. I also cleaned the the dust from the coils under the front.

I was thinking it was the timer, but that seems to work. Could it be the thermostat? I was just going to replace both. But could something else be the issue?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks, Truss

It will refrost quickly especially if there is lots of moisture in the air in the fridge and freezer. A thin layer is probably normal. If you think you have more than normal check to see if you have a leaky gasket around both door that could let moisture in. If the gasket won't hold a dollar bill securely, it will leak air. Leaving the door open a lot and opening it frequently lets moisture in also.

Thanks woodchuck. not much door opening and closing going on, since it's my second fridge and it's in the garage. Gaskets seem fine, but I'll double check them.
But, should it be running constantly? I would think it would get to temp and then the compressor and fans would take a break and only come back on when the temp dropped...
