Default Seems like just the fan is working on our unit
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 5 - 10 years

A side-by-side refrigerator/freezer Kenmore unit has only a sound of a fan working. Everything is warm, but barely cold. We were on vacation for 2 weeks and saw water all over the ground and noticed the unit was not working correctly. Is this something that can be easliy fixed or not worth the time and just call a professional???

Check to see if the condenser fan at the back bottom of fridge is running.
Is the compressor motor near that fan running.
Are the coils warm ,cold or hot.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. stopped up? clear? ice in one spot . frost everywhere.

Thanks for the reply.

The fans are running and air is blowing out of the damper, however it is not real cold.

The compressor?(not sure if thats what its called) in the back of the fridge is hot, is that normal?

The coils are air temprature not warm not cold. The freezer is completly defrosted.

??????????

If the fan near the compressor is running the problem may be low freon or a compressor problem which would require a qualified tech to check.
