Default Roper Ice Maker
Brand: Roper
Model Number: 4317943
Age: 5 - 10 years

Ice maker has been putting black impurities into the ice. When I removed the basket, there was a lot of "plastic dust" (?) on the sliding rail. The ice is so impregnated with the impurities, it cannot be used. I think I will need to replace it. 1. Do you have instructions on replacement? 2. Is this an ongoing problem with this ice maker? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ted B.

Do you see and wear in the ice maker?

Have you check the water reservoir to make sure that is not something in the tank?

The tank is located behind the crisper in the fridge section.

Can you please supply the model number of your fridge?

Model # is RS22AWXEW01
The ice maker does show some wear, but it has had this problem for quite some time. I've been using bagged ice for a year or more. The tank appears to be clear. The impurities in the ice are actually black flakes....some quite large...I mean very visible. Our local repair man says nothing can be done....but we are in a small town, and I'm not sure of his expertise!! When I took the bucket out, there was actually what appeared to be plastic "dust" on the left slide rail.....don't know where this came from...thanks for your help

With out seeing the particles in your water and the ice maker it is had to say where they are coming from.

If there is nothing in the water line in the fridge and the ice maker looks good you might want to check your supply line.

Try disconnecting the supply line from the fridge and flushing the line.

Are the black piece big enough that you can feel them and maybe identify what the material is?

Here is a link to your fridge model RS22AWXEW01.
