It's probably a quick release type if it's not threaded. You slide the little ring and pull the line out.

Good luck on replacing the line in the door. May be hard to do because of the insulation in the door.

Maybe there is enough slack in the line to allow you to pull some through and hook it back up.

Having same problem with a Whirlpool GS6NBE. Could not find the part illustrated in the parts list and do not know how to get the little blue ring off to get the water line out. My leak is at this unnamed elbow you are calling a quick release. Does it have a official name I can look it up by?

my water line broke too , right above the nite lite. got my fridge in 2002, the water line is plastic and runs above and behind the lite . i think the heat of it on all the time conflicted with the cool water and make it very brittle . i jimmy rigged
it with half of a sonic straw and slid it over the broken part so i can use it til i can properly repair it . Got my fridge at sears , and of course the thing broke a yr after the extra warrenty i paid for ended. Called to get someone out to repair it from sears , and the minimum charge is going to be $150.00. There has to be a cheaper way . I didn't figure out how to take the door off. any help please !!!

If you have room you may can cut the bad part out and put in a junction to put new line in. Check at you local appliance repair parts place for the junction. Post your model # at this site for a diagram of your door if you want to take it off. Appliance Parts From PartSelect | Repair Parts For Major Appliances

You dont take the blue ring off to get the water tube apart. You push/pull the ring and the water tube pulls out of the ring. The ring stays where it is. My water dispenser tube is inside a foamed in door. The door has to be replaced to replace the tube.
