I have the identical fridge ABB2227DEW, purchased Jan 06, with the identical problem.

My fridge is out of warranty. (One year full, 5 yr sealed refrigeration system) Is the defrost system part of the "sealed refrigeration system?"

Would also appreciate if anyone knows the parts numbers for the defrost heater or defrost thermostat or other solution to this problem.

Default Control board programming

I purchased a new control board (part # 67006740) with JAZZ14 sticker on it. The board is identical with the one in my fridge except the old one says JAZZ10.

When I plug in the new JAZZ14 control board, it just flashes "0" and "0". Can anyone provide a procedure to initiate the board. Thanks.

You will have to program your new board.

The program code is located on the model and serial number plate after the word Code.

Open the fresh food door and hold the light switch closed while pushing the freezer temperature down key pad 3 times consecutively. This must be done within 10 seconds.

Release the fresh food door light switch.

The control will display PE to confirm entry into the programming mode.

Entry is confirmed by pressing the freezer down key once more.

All control functions will be turned off. (Compressor, Defrost, Evaporator Fan, the damper will remain in its current position.

The control will display the current program code. This value should be validated with the program code printed on the unit model and serial plate.

If the program coed is correct, the programming mode is exited by closing the refrigerator door.

To set the desired program code number press the freezer and refrigerator up keys. The corresponding digit will be advanced with each key press.

Once the desired program code is displayed, press the freezer down key until the program code begins flashing indicating it has been saved.

If you attempt to enter and invalid program coed the control will not save the new code, but will flash the old code and this will be displayed.( The unit will not run with a program code of 00.)

Once the program code has been saved the programming mode is exited by closing the refrigerator door. If the new code is incorrect this process should be repeated after closing the refrigerator door.

Thank you Sheila,

My program code is "02".

However, I don't have a "fresh food door", only the main refrigerator door. The main refrigerator door light switch, when closed, also closes the temperature display lights (two led displays, adjustable between the numbers 1 through 7). Is this the switch that needs to be closed while pushing the freezer temperature down key?

I've checked the wiring diagram (available here Whirlpool Parts Online ), I can see only 2 switches. One for the freezer and one for the refrigerator.

Would appreciate any comments.

The fresh food door is the fridge door.

Follow the instruction and it will program the control.
