Default Replacement Ice Maker - Whirlpool
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: gs6shexn
Age: More than 10 years

My icemaker has quit working. I look up the replacement and get back part # PS358591 for $109.74. I then look up "Add on ice maker kit" and get back part # PS317560 for $99.40. The ice maker unit appears to be the same! Why would I spend $109.74 when it looks like I can get the unit I need for $99.40?

There should be no reason that you can't use ps317560.

Sheila,
Thanks for the response! Now I'm wondering what might be in the replacement kit that is not in the add on kit that would justify the 10% price increase of the replacement vs the add on?

I notice the quiet difference too. One for $109.95 is for replacement, and for $99.95 was for a new kit, which has water valve, hose, mounting kits, etc about $45 in extra parts yet, it is about 10% cheaper. I wonder who priced it?
