Default Replacement heater/therm issue
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: TFX20DH
Age: 5 - 10 years

Purchased a replacement heater element and thermostat for the above fridge, and have a wiring/plug issue. GE part WR51X442

The replacement heater thermostat I purchased has a three prong plug, with thick blue and pink wires on two leads (the heater), and lighter gauge pink and orange wires on the offset lead (with one prob going to another of the heater leads) (the thermostat).

The original heater in the fridge has two medium gauged blue and pinkish wires in one 2-pronged plug, and then the thermostat is medium gauged orange and pink wires on a separate 2-pronged plugplug.

I'm ASSUMING : ) that I can cut the 3 prong plug off the new heater/therm assembly (giving me a thick blue and pink wire for the heater, and two lighter gauges wires for the thermostat, all loose wires now) , and cut the heater and therm off the old assembly in the fridge and splice the loose wires color coded together and heat shrink them; but before I do any cutting, and I want to make sure this is correct and will work, or I simply purchased the wrong assembly and need to get the correct one. With the age of the fridge and replacement parts moving more toward ''fit all'' installations, maybe I do have to cut and splice.

Thanks for the help in advance. GREAT site for info and parts.
