Default Replaced Icemaker not working
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GD5SHAXLB02
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Whirlpool Gold Side by Side refrigerator with icemaker. The icemaker started to leak, so after investigation, I noticed the coating on the ice tray was peeling off allowing water to drip between the icetray and motor housing. I then decided I wanted to replace the icemaker.

I purchased a replacement icemaker kit from Lowe's, however, the ice stripper was different and I needed to swap it out from the original icemaker. I disassembled the new icemaker and installed the correct ice stripper, then installed the icemaker.

The problem is that the icemaker does not work. No water dispenses to the ice maker and it has not cycled since I installed the unit.

Everything else works fine (i.e. the water dispenser, ice dispenser, cruched ice, etc.)

I checked the laser eye multiple times and it is functioning correctly. I wasn't sure if I needed to add thermal mastic between the ice tray and thermostat. Does that make that big of a difference? It has been over 4 days and I turned the temperature down to make it colder in hopes it would kick on the system.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Default

I have got the cycle started by manually filling tray with water and watch it after it freezes to see if it works and listen for the click of the water inlet valve.
