Default Replace ice maker in side by side
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MSD2756GEW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Gears stripped out on the old one. I have a replacement ice maker for this frig. How do you get the old one out? Do I have to remove everything else around the ice maker? Do you need to turn off water and unplug it first? Any expereince from others that have already done it before?

I am not an appliance technician. But a Sears repair tech came and replaced my ice cube maker on our two year old Maytag Wide by Side. Looks very similar as yours.
I watched him and he never shut the water off or unplugged it. He pulled the ice cube bucket out for more elbow room and then there was a couple screws holding the ice cube maker to the side of the freezer, and a power connector somewhere at the back. Took no time at all. I see there a tube that the water shoots down in to the back of the ice cube tray, get that back all lined up properly when your done.
he did say the new ice cube maker has more torque to kick the cubes out, or perhaps strip the gears faster next time?

Thanks. I already figured it out myself and that is exactly how I did it. It was really easy!
