Default REPAIRMAN DIDN'T REPAIR, please help!
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH25SGPA SS
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a GE side by side and my frig side is quite warm, the freezer works fine. I called a repair guy and he came out and cleaned out the freezer and removed a panel and said the coils were fine. He then removed a white cover on the frig on the top left that exposed a little door. He said that the door's sensor was bad and that the cheapest way to repair the unit was to just prop the door open, so he inserted a hard cardboard piece to keep the door open and let cold are in from the freezer. This lasted about two days. Now the the door is still proped open and it's getting warm again. On top of that, I have noticed that the controls for the freezer and the frig are no longer lit. They light up when I touch them, but, shortly after they turn off. All this and the guy still charged me $50.00....please help.

If the door is still open, is the evaporator fan in the freezer blowing cold air through it. If the fan isn't running check it here.Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Evaporator Fan - ACME HOW TO.com

If the fan is running then the evaporator coil below the fan may now be iced up, that would be auto defrost problem.
