Question Removing Ice Maker
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GS5SHAXNQ00
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have the ice maker where the vertical bin mounts in the door. I am trying to repair or replace the ice maker/ejector. It is very difficult to unplug the cable connector. Cable is only long enough to partially slide unit out with very limited access or viewing of plug. Plug appears to have locking tabs. I tried prying with 2 long bladed screwdrivers to no avail. Unless I find a better way I plan to snip the cable and after removing unit add about 4 inches to cable so unplugging/plugging connector can be done with unit out of mounting slide.

Does anyone have an idea how to properly remove this unit before I do surgery?

Thanks in advance.

To remove the ice maker from the fridge:

Open the freezer door.

Close the spring-loaded emitter door and open the ice maker door.

Push the ice maker door to the left so that the pin disengages from the pivot arm, then raise the pin out of the pivot, and remove the left pin.

Remove the wire shield screw from the bottom of the ice maker.

From the rear of the ice maker, lift the top of the wire shield slightly and pull it back to release if from the ice maker.

Press up on the two retaining clips (one on each side)at the bottom of the ice maker tracks with a fingernail of each hand, pull the ice maker froward and remove it.

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the ice maker.
