OK, when I pulled the overload off to disconnect the fan motor, the overload disintigrated in my hand. So... I ordered one of those as well as the relay. My new question is.
The unit has been working (sort of) because everything was in place, and I had a household fan sitting behind the fridge blowing air over the condenser coils. It was even making ice!!
Now that the overload is destroyed, is it OK to plug in the unit and will the compressor continue to work? The relay itself is still in place on the side of the compressor, the fan motor is disconnected from its terminal. There was one fan motor wire connected to the overload, and one other wire that I am not sure where it goes. I sure appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!

There should be a schematic printed on the back of the refrigerator.
