Default Refrigerator warn/Freezer ok
Brand: Inglis
Model Number: IKT14130
Age: 5 - 10 years

I've been using your forum to trouble-shoot my problem and THANKS to your forum I can see that so far the problem comes from either the defrost timer and/or defrost heater and/or defrost thermostate. How do I specifically check these 3 areas on an Inglis? Thanks, Barb

Hi Sheila,
Thanks for your help. The model no. from the inside of my frig is listed as: IKT141300. P.S. I'm having a hard time locating the Defrost Timer on this Inglis model. Cheers, Barb

Hi again, I was just looking at the Bimetal Defrost Thermostate (and it just may be the problem) - the inside of the Bimetal Defrost thermostate (black round unit) is sitting on an angle rather than flush in its container - could this cause a faulty connection??? Thanks again. Barb

Hi Barb,

I am guessing that you are in the UK.

This is why the model will not go in my database.

If this is a side by side or regular under and over the defrost timer would be in the fridge section in where the temperature control is.

If the fridge is all electronic you may have a PC board as a defrost timing unit.

The defrost bi metal and heater are in the freezer section behind a panel in the back.

The bi metal does not have to be flat to work most are mounted on an angle.

The bi metal senses temperature and shut the heater off when the coil have defrosted.

The heater and bi metal can be tested with a meter.

The bi metal has to be cold in order to be tested so the contact are closed.

Hi Sheila,

I 'm not in the UK, I'm on glorious Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, where it's pretty hot at the moment.

The bimetal defrost thermostate has been replaced and now I can hear the sound of water hitting the heater and my frig is nice and cold. Whereas before, when that stopped happening (water hitting the heater) then the warm frig problem started happening. I would defrost it and then after 1 week the problem of having a warm frig would happen again. I should have clued in when I didn't hear the water hitting the heater. When I took the freezer panel off, it was just a block of solid ice back there, so of course there was no air circulation to the frig as it was blocked by ice. Anyways, I hope I'm out of the woods. Thanks for all your expertise help and for this appliance forum site. Cheers, Barb
