Default Refrigerator Warm; Freezer Fine
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRT18G4AWE
Age: 1 - 4 years

About a month ago, we noticed that our refrigerator was warm; he freezer was working fine. It appeared that the air flow between the fridge and the freezer was blocked with frost, so we defrosted the unit, and the problem was resolved. About 2 weeks ago, this happened again - so we defrosted again, and it worked again. Now last night, the same thing happened again. In addition, water is now dripping from the air "tunnel" between the freezer and the fridge onto the top shelf in the fridge. The fridge is set to the recommendated temperature setting and the freezer is set to the lowest setting in an attempt to prevent the freezing (which obviously isn't working!) Frigidaire's website simply said we need to call for service, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas......Thanks a bunch!

What is happening is the freezer is not defrosting on its own.

This means that your defrost timer, defrost heater, or the defrost bi metal has failed.

The defrost timer is in the fridge section in the control panel.

Look at the control panel and you will see a knob in between two screws.

While the compressor is running turn the knob until the compressor shuts off.

Your fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

The defrost cycle takes about 20 minutes.

If after the 20 minutes the fridge does not start back up you will have to turn the knob again until the compressor starts.

The freezer should have defrosted.

If the fridge starts up on its own and the freezer has not defrosted then you have a problem with the defrost heater or the defrost bi metal.

These have to be checked using a meter.

Here is a link to your fridge model FRT18G4AWE.

Here is what the timer looks like.
