Default Refrigerator warm freezer fine
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: RSW2200C
Age: More than 10 years

The refrigerator has no cooling air coming into the section.
The freezer works fine and the circulation fan runs.

The unit was shut down for 12 hours and open to warm up if ice build up and restarted.
Freezer worked fine and again refrigerator not bringing in cool air.

Is there a test with volt/ohm meter to see if the t-stat is operating properly?

Would the defrost timer have anything to this problem even though ice would have melted?

The fan that is running is it at the back of the fridge?

Can you also verify your model number? It is missing characters at the end.

Model number is correct, marked on door.
After off for one week, restarted and ran fine for one week. Ducts do not push air from freezer to refrig. Freezer fine at -10 refrog at 48.
Would the opening be frosted over?

Yes the opening could be frosted over.

You may have a defrost problem.

There should be two more letters on the tag to complete the model number.

Here is a partial list of parts for your fridge model RSW2200C.

The defrosting problem could be the defrost timer, the defrost heater, or the defrost thermostat.

The defrost timer is located at the back of the fridge.

The timer has a button that your can turn to manually put the fridge in the defrost cycle.

With the compressor running turn the knob until the fridge shuts off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle and it will last about 20 minutes.

You should be able to here the sound of water hitting the heater if you open the freezer door.

If you have defrost water in the drip pan the heater and thermostat are fine.

If the fridge does not start up after the 20 minutes you will have to turn the knob on the defrost timer again until the fridge starts up.

You will then have to get a new defrost timer.

If the fridge did not defrost it is ether the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat.

You will need a meter to check these.

The thermostat can only be check when it is cold.

Default testing heater and defrost t-stat

The Defrost timer seems to work after turning and cycling. However, I do not see dripping in pan.

How would I test either the heater or defrost t-stat with a multi-meter?

Also, where would the defrost stat be located?

Thanks much

The defrost heater and defrost bi metal are in the freezer section of the fridge behind the back panel.

The bi metal has to be cold to be tested.

It opens to shut the heater off.

The heater can be tested with the meter set on the ohm scale.

The needle should move if the heater is good.

The heater and bi metal must be disconnected from the circuit so you don't get a reading from something else.

Here is the heater.

Here is the defrost bi metal.

Default Refrigerator Warm Freezer Fine

I recently changed the defrost cycle timer in my fridge about 1.5 weeks ago on Whirlpool side by side and it appeared to work. Last night I noticed build up back on the coils and the drain plug was plugged with icea and the fridge was warm while freezer was cold and making ice. The week after I changed the timer the plug was open. I placed the fridge into defrost mode and the heater works as I saw water and the drain plug ice melted. The replaced timer is setup to have the extra wire on pin 1. Any suggestions on what to check next would be appreciated, thermostat?

Make sure the new defrost timer little motor is turning inside. Just put a mark on the timer housing and check later if it moved. If not, you have it misswired or the wrong timer.

Default freezer cold fridge ~50

The defrost timer is working fine, I can see the timer spinning. I changed the bi-metal thermostat today. The freezer <28F but the fridge is running between 47-50F regardless of temperature setting on freezer or fridge. I can feel some cold air from the top air vent but does not appear to lower temperature. Any recommendations on what to check next.

Go back and pull off back freezer panel and check for frost, there may be frost in critical places. If frost, short out the defrost thermostat, turn defrost timer to defrost and check the defrost heaters, they should glow cherry red.
If ok, run refrigerator and check freezer temperature at the back of freezer, post results. If not below 20 degrees after a few hours, you have refrigeration problems for a pro to fix.
