Smile Refrigerator warm/Freezer cool/Ice maker stopped working
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.52602100
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,

I have a Kenmore Elite side by side model# 106.52602100 manufactured in 2002.

Yesterday when I arrived home the refrigerator section had water in the bottom under the drawer and condensation on the sides.

Also, the freezer is running sounds like a fan and the food is cold but has condensation inside on some items. Also, when opening the freezer cold air shoots from the back this is not occurring.
On the back of the freezer inside near the light frost is on the back panel.

Cleaned the condensor coils and nothing appeared to change. Also, the evaporator fan is working at the lower freezer bottom.

The ice maker has also stopped making ice but it will dispense.

The regrigerator is not coming on and off it is just sitting quietly except for the 2 fans running.

Please help with this problem!!! malez

It sounds like one of the doors have been left open, and the refrigerator was trying to cool the whole house down. So, first take the ice out of the back of the freezer, where it shoots air into the refrigerator, there is 1 screw that holds that assembly in place. Take it out, and clean all the ice out, and put it back, then go inside the refrigerator, where the air comes in, and make sure it is not frozen there too. It most likely is. Get the blower druer out, and defrost it, then put the freezer control temp to 1, and the refrigerator control to the middle. The compressor is hot has a pistol, and it will eventually catch back up. Smile Refrigerator gone warm again/Freezer is not freezing to full capacity

Hello Tom,

My husband did exactly what you stated and the refrigerator worked like a charm for about 10 days.

However, on Monday 7.28.08 the refrigerator started to become warm again, the vent that sends out cold air from the freezer nothing is blowing thru and water is dripping from the vent.

I placed the freezer on 1 as stated in the previuos post and noted that the freezer has frost on the back panel and appears to not be freezing the food as well as before.

Could it be the evaporator fan or the vent in between the freezer and refrigerator.

Can you please give any suggestions as to what is happening?!!!

Smile Kenmore Freezer/Refrigerator problems

Hi Tom,

After posting the information in regards to the refrigerator problems it suddenly started working again.

Cool air was flowing from the freezer to the refrigerator, however frost still remains on the back panel of the freezer.

Does this appear to be a part that's on it's way out.

Also, how would you test to make sure what is happening with the refrigerator

Everything appears to be acting normal the freezer, refrigerator and the vent to the refrigerator is blowing cold air.

Please advise and thanks for all the great information. MAlez

Hello,

This is the problem in a quick simple manner:

The freezer had frost on the back panel and solid sheet of ice was on the bottom of the freezer bottom. The ice maker and ice had frost on them.

The freezer is now beginning to get warm and producing no ice. The fan is still blowing in the freezer.

The refrigerator is warm with no flow of air from the freezer to the refrigerator. The walls of the refrigerator have condensation on them.

The fan is still blowing in the freezer.

Please help!!

Thanks
M. Alez

You have a defrost problem. Take the back panel of the freezer apart, and make sure the refrigerator is unplugged, and ohm out the heater, and the defrost thermostat. It is located at the top of the evaporator coil. If they check good, you have a board problem. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the information.

When my husband took off the back cover of the freezer ice was caked up on the bottom of the evaporator coils.

He used the ohm reader on the thermomstat and was given a reading of “0”.

The defroster heater gave him an ohm reading of “25” we suspect the heater is the problem.

The refrigerator is working again is this because the ice melted from the coils with the back off?

Also, ice maker stopped making ice does the heater interfere with this process?

Can you tell me what the part number would be for this refrigerator Kenmore Elite side by side model# 106.52602100 it was manufactured by Whirlpool.

Also, is it difficult to replace the heater how would he get around the evaporator coils to replace the heater?

Thanks
M. Alez

By what you said the defrost heater is good, and so is the defrost thermostat. It is is the control board. Tom
