Default Refrigerator stops cooling
Brand: Amana
Age: 5 - 10 years

My frig stops cooling and I can hear the fan running. I unplug for about 12 hrs plug in and it starts cooling again. I am not sure if it is freezing up or getting hot or what it is doing. This has happened about 4 times and usually works about a week in between each time it stops cooling. It also works fine and gets real cold each time it works again.
Thanks for any help!!

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

I can't tell without your model number but you may have an adaptive defrost control instead of a defrost timer. If everything else is ok it would be the adaptive defrost control.

Luckily in my opinion you have a defrost timer.
