Default Refrigerator semi-cool, freezer not freezing.
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRT17G4BW3
Age: 1 - 4 years

This refrigerator is less than two years old. Over the course of one week, ice trays slowly stopped freezing and the refrigerator is only semi-cool. Thermometer in freezer fluctuates between twenty and forty degrees. Thank you.

Do you hear the fridge run at all?

If the fridge does run shut off and call for service.

The system may have a leak.

If the fridge does not run look inside the fridge section and locate the control panel.

In the control panel there should be a little button like thing sticking out of the bottom.

It will have a slot in it and you will be able to turn it with a screwdriver.

Turn it slowly until you hear the fridge start to run.

If the fridge starts to run and cool you will need a new defrost timer.

Here is a link to your fridge model FRT17G4BW3.

Yes, the fridge runs fine as it always has, with no noise of any kind. The freezer does not blow cold, frosty air anymore. The temperature goes up close to forty degrees every three or four hours but does not freeze. Thankyou.

Look in the freezer and take the fan cover off.

If you see an ice build up your fridge is not defrosting.

Go to the control in the fridge and locate the defrost timer button.

This is a little button that has a slot in it that can be turned with a screwdriver.

Turn this until the fridge turns off.

The fridge should now be in the defrost cycle.

This will take about 20 minutes.

The fridge should start up after the 20 minutes.

If it does not start back on its own the timer will have to be replaced.

If the fridge defrosts and starts to blow cold air again then you will need a defrost timer.

If the ice does not melt, manually defrost the fridge.

If after manually defrosting the fridge it works, then it is the defrost heater or bi metal that would need to be replaced.
