Default Refrigerator runs contiuously
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.9532580
Age: 5 - 10 years

Refrigerator is running contiuously. We bought a new thermostat for the refrigerator but it is still running. Frost builds up through the openings going from freezer to refrigerator. What else could it be? We redid the ice maker motor and replaced that thermostat last year.

It sounds like there may be a problem with the defrost cycle.

Take the panel that is inside the freeze section at the back of and see if the coil are frosted over.

If they are your fridge is not going through the defrost cycle.

To check the defrost circuit locate the defrost timer in the control panel in the fridge section.

With the compressor running turn the knob in the center of the defrost timer until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

The heater in the freezer should come on a melt the frost that is built up on the coils.

The defrost cycle will last up to about 23 minutes.

If all the frost is melted before the time is up the defrost thermostat will shut the heater off.

If the fridge does not start after that you have a faulty timer.

To get the fridge running again turn the knob until the compressor starts up.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 106.9532580.

Here is the defrost timer.
