Default Refrigerator runs all the time
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: bis42ajd
Age: More than 10 years

I have a side by side refrigerator/freezer with the compressor unit on top.

The compressor recently went out and I had it replaced along with the compressor fan and the defrost timer.

Now it seems that the compressor runs all the time (or at least all the time I am in the kitchen) - except when the defrost timer kicks in. I hear a humming noise from that area anyway. I don't remember this happening before I had the compressor replaced

The repair tech says this is normal in the hot weather

I started with freezer/refrigerator controls both set at 5 (1->9, warm->cold)

The freezer temperature varies between 0 and +10 degrees - the refrigerator stays about +42 - the ice-maker works

I have since incrementally reduced the freezer control down to 1 (the refrigerator control adjusts a damper) without a change in the temperatures or the continual running

any help would be appreciated

Default

The fridge will run more in the warmer weather but it should still shut off after twenty minute to a half hour of run time.

You should have the technician back to check the fridge.
