Default Refrigerator problems Maytag 2003
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MBB2254GEB
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a Maytag refrigerator MBB2254GEB.

It is working fine for a couple of days and all of the sudden it starts making clicking noises. First they are low and far apart, then they became noisier and often.

As soon as I hear that it means that the refrigerator and the freezer are not cooling. If I turn it of for 24hrs, it will work like if nothing ever happened. However, after 5 or 6 days it will start again.

I hade a friend come out and check it and he cleaned it and said I would need a condenser engine. Would this be what it needs?

this is awesome I think every Maytag fridge does this! Read my note, as i have the same thing going on. I ordered the defrost thermostat. the clicking noise is horrible, I unplugged my fridge in anticipation of my new part.

"Condenser engine"...no such thing!!!! What it sounds like is frost build up possibly coming in contact with the evaporator fan blade. Frost may be building up as a result of a torn or mis-shapen door gasket, at a rate that the defrost cycle cannot handle. When you unplug it and let it sit for a while the frost melts away, and when you start it up again, the whole cycle starts over. Check your door gaskets near the hinges on both doors, and especialy the bottom of the fresh food door. Kool-ade or other sticky spill that are not cleaned off right away can cause gaskets to roll or tear which will allow moist air to be drawn inside. If the gaskets are sealing okay, it could be a problem with in adequate defrosting...possibly a bad defrost timer.
