Default Refrigerator not cooling properly
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SBDE21VPSE
Age: 5 - 10 years

Serial Number: 0001251598 Mfg: P1317202WE

Freezer and refrigerator quit cooling (recents storms may caused surge)

Took pasteboard back off. Compressor and fan not running.

Unplugged unit and wiring harness. Plugged both back in.

Within 20 minutes, compressor and condensor coil fan came on.

Freezer cooling properly but refrigerator staying too warm (50-60).

Took cover off of electronics at top left interior of refrigerator side.

Metal electrical box on left with two wires running to what looks like a solanoid or small electric motor. A thermo probe extends below small motor. It appears that small motor raises a plastic probe which in turn opens a small trap door to let cold air into refrigerator. I can insert pen to hold door open and temperature goes down in frefrigerator. On it's own, small trap door stays closed or open about 1/4 inch when "Max Cool" is chosen.

Do I need the part that opens the little trap door to let cold air in automatically?

Thanks for your time and trouble.

Joe

Yes it does sound like the damper control is faulty.

Here is a link to your fridge model SBDE21VPSE.

The damper control is number 222 on the ice maker/control assembly breakdown.
