Default Refrigerator not cooling
Brand: Amana
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

My Amanah side by side refrigerator (7 yrs. old) is not getting cold. I already adjusted the temp to its max setting and its still not cold enough specially the freezer that's why the ice maker is not working. There is water in the dispenser but its not also cold. My husband said maybe there's a leak that's why there's not enough freon to make it cold. If this is so where do we buy the freon and how do we go about adding freon or looking for the leak?

Thank you.

If it's the freon, you'll need a technician with the proper equipment to find and repair the leak and recharge with freon. But make sure that is your problem.

Check to see if the condenser fan at the outside back bottom of fridge is running.
Is the compressor motor near that fan running.
Are the coils warm ,cold or hot.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. stopped up? clear? ice in one spot . frost everywhere? If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat
