Default Refrigerator Makes Noise that goes away when water dispenser is used.
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: Unknown
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a KitchenAid Superba side by side and it will sometimes make a sound that simply sounds like a louder than normal compressor noise. The noise will cease immediately if I depress the water dispenser lever for even a split second. The noise can also sometimes be made to stop if I move the refrigerator back and forth slightly.

If I do not use the water dispenser at all for an extended period, the noise does not seem to tend to occur. It occurs most often during periods when I am using the water dispenser frequently. The noise will start some minutes after I use the dispenser, and then go away the instant I depress the dispenser lever again. Although sometimes it will come back again some minutes later.

Thank you.

This sounds like there is something vibrating.

Is the fridge level?

It is hard to find what is making this type of sound.

Yes, it is level. I guess I still find the oddest thing to be the direct connection between the noise and using the water dispenser.

If your fridge uses a solenoid for the dispensing it could be the solenoid making the vibrating sound.

Can you please supply your model number.

It can be found on a tag in the fridge section with the serial number.
