Default Refrigerator Freezing Up/Not Cooling
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JCD2389GES
Age: 5 - 10 years

My refrigerator was not very cool on Saturday so I diagnosed it and found that it had frozen up for some reason. I thawed it out and it has been working find for two days now. I have several questions. If I only fixed the symptom and not the problem, how long will it take for the unit to freeze up again? Is there an easy way to test whether the thermostat is bad on the defrost/heater unit? Is there an easy way to test the defroster module? It seems like these are the only two things that might cause this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no easy way to test this unit unless you have a watt meter and ohm meter.

It only takes a couple of days for the frost to build up and the unit to stop working.

The other thing that could be causing the fridge to frost up is the adaptive defrost assembly.

This is the control located in the fridge control panel.

Here is a link to your fridge model JCD2389GES.

Thanks for the response. If the fridge is defrosting correctly, should I be able to detect water in the drip pan under the fridge?
