Default Refrigerator freezing, buzzing & clicking
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.75509400
Age: 1 - 4 years

The refrigerator (Kenmore Trio 25' bottom freezer) has started freezing things in the back of the refrigerator compartment. It was down to 30 degrees in it. The freezer part works fine. The fan is working in both compartments. The only thing I noticed is that something buzzes and then clicks every 1 1/2 to 2 minutes at normal setting(5). I tried turning the setting for the refrigerator warmer and the freezer I left the same. Still have the buzzing and now the refrigerator is starting to get too warm. The buzzing and clicking isn't as often now since I changed the setting. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your ptr relay on the side of the compressor is going sour. Just pry it off and replace with a new one.

Is the PTR relay the overload relay? I turned the fresh food part warmer another step (two warmer than normal) and now it is not freezing everything and the buzzing/clicking has stopped. Just want to make sure the PTR relay is the overload relay, since there is nothing in the parts book by that name. The overload relay and capacitor are on the compressor according to the parts manual. Thought maybe the clicking noise had something to do with the self defrost. Thanks for your fast help.

It is the start relay you need to replace. Just take the cover off the side of the compressor and pry off the square box in there. You can order a new one at partselect.

Replaced the start relay on the side of the compressor, but it is still making the noise. The freezer is not freezing now and the refrigerator isn't cooling as well either. In fact on normal (5) it is just barely in the food range. Every 2 to 3 minutes there is a loud buzzing for 25 seconds and then a click. Only 3 years old.

You have a bad compressor.
