Default Refrigerator & freezer not cooling properly
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MZD 2766 GE
Age: 1 - 4 years

Freezer compartment still makes ice, refrigerator cools to about 16 deg F (55 F) below ambient. Unit is four years old, in same location and not moved (apart for cleaning). The fan runs (unit is running constantly now) the is a difference in temperature between return and supply to compressor and the coils ect are clean and dust free. Tried switching off and letting unit cool down, no noticeable difference. Seals good and doors close properly.

If the freezer is working fine than you have an air flow problem.

This could be caused by the fridge not defrosting.

This would cause an ice build up in the air passages.

It also could be the dampers in the fridge.

If they are not opened this would stop the air flow.

Can you please verify your model number for me?

Sheila, many thanks for information, I will try defrosting completely and see if that helps. Do not know if there are any dampers, the hand book does not mention any. The Model No. is MZD 2766 GEW.

Best regards,
James

Sheila,

Defrosted unit, found the coils inside the freeze compartment iced up.
Now appears to be working ok, many thanks for your help.

Regards,
James
