Default Refrigerator Freezer Defrost Problems
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MTB1956DE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a defroster problem. Ice is collecting on the back of the freezer and in the vents on the back plastic panel. I see what appears to be a fan in the back or something behind the plastic panel. I have turned the freezer control to 7 after hand removing the ice from freezer unit. Is there a fan behind the back plastic panel and is it supposed to run constantly? What else could cause this problem, if you know? Thanks in advance.

Look in the back of control panel for a plastic defrost timer, just turn the knob till the refrigeratot turns off. Check behind freezer panel for defrost action, if none check the defrost thermostat and heater for continuity. If it defrosts, change the defrost timer.
