Cleaning Whirlpool Side-by-Side refrigerant coils The user manual and common sense tell you that cleaning the refrigerant cooling coils on the Whirlpool or any other refrigerator is critical for efficient operation. However, the usual vacuuming method can only clean the front and rear coils on the Whirlpool; the others are impossible to reach.
One quick solution is to use an air compressor to blow the dirt off the coils; it is more effective and faster than vacuuming. The trick is to capture the dirt. We placed a piece of 6 mil plastic on the floor and rolled the frig on, then duct taped (what else?) to form a bag over the bottom of the frig with the back open and front sealed. Then cut a small X hole in the front, shove the hose of a good shop-vac though the hole. Turn on the vac on the frontend and start blowing the dirt off the coils with the air compressor from the back.
With any luck, a good vac and sufficient duct tape, all the dirt will disappear. |
