Default Refrig not staying cool /Freezer cold
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JCD2389GE
Age: 5 - 10 years

Starting this week, our refrig was not staying cold. We moved the refrig slide bar from middle to colder and still no change in temp. The Freezer is staying cold however not as cold as it should be and not making as much ice. I have vacuum out all of the dust from the vents in the front and back. How do I know if the compressor is bad? Can I replace the compressor if bad? Thanks

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's open.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost heater, defrost thermostat

In your unit you have the adaptive defrost control. It senses when to defrost based on how many times and for how long the door is opened. It's more energy efficient but there does seem to be lots of problems with the board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Wood - thanks for the reply. Where can I find the flap to see if it is stuck?

In the fridge are these parts. The rods parts 4, 5 move to open and close the damper. You may can see the hole in the freezer wall. All of this is behind the controls in the top. JCD2389GE Parts List
