Default Refrig = 15C / Freezer = 1C ?
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.79279991
Age: 5 - 10 years

This is a Kenmore Bottom Freezer unit that is 8 years old.
My refrigerator is not cooling down to the normal temperature. The freezer is working just fine, but I noticed that ice is forming on the back wall of the freezer. *The condenser fan in the back of the refrigerator does run. I do hear a noise of a fan running inside the freezer.

What do I test or check to determine what the problem is ?

Also, at the base of the appliance, behind the toe kick, there is a control box (4-wires) with a red knob sticking out (slot in end). Is this the defrost timer ? If so, where is the defrost thermostat ?

TIA

Default Diagnosis Made

Finally got everything apart to diagnosis problem. A quick check of the defrost timer revealed it was working fine. An ohm check on the heater fouond it in perfect working order. The defrost thermostat was defective (intermit open) and I will replace it soon. Additional confirmation was that the entire unit was frozen in a block of ice confirming that the defrost circuit had a "problem". Now if appliance part shops were only open on Sundays !
