Refridgerator defrost problem Brand: Hotpoint Model Number: CSX22GJB Age: More than 10 years I replaced the burnt out defrost coils about 6 weeks ago and thought everything was good until last week I noticed that the refridgerator wasn't as cold as it should be.
Defrost coils iced over again.
I can manually get the defrost cycle on through the timer so I'm assuming the thermostat and defrost coils are good. I marked the timer with a paint pen last night and it did not change location so I'm assuming either the timer is bad or it's not getting power.
The part number on the timer is TMDGY35R89.
REPAIR UPDATE:
I stopped by the local parts store and got a timer - I installed it marking the manual rotary dial after cofirming it would go into defrost mode - I awoke this morning and observed the timer dial had moved and it went into defrost mode on it's own.
I noticed it was still in defrost mode but the heater coils had timed out so I'm assuming the thermostat had shut off the coils. As I had to leave for work and not wanting to come home to a defrosted freezer I manually turned the dial to get the compressor to turn back on. My question is how long after the defrost cycle ends should the the compressor and fan turn back on? What controls that - the thermostat or a control board?
Thank you.
8/11 - new timer is working
