Default Quit running
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 1068730583
Age: 5 - 10 years

I received this fridge used and it worked for about a half hour, then just quit. There is nothing running. There is a black box that the power cord goes into that looks to be a distribution block that I think is the problem. I have 120v going into the box but next to nothing going to the compressor. Could the block be the problem, or something else. Next question is kenmore no longer makes the block so where should I go to find one ( part number 549947 )

Your fridge has a timer in it for the run and defrost time.

It sounds like the fridge went in to the defrost cycle.

It will start back up in about 20 minutes.

If it does not then you have another problem.

Pull cover off the control panel in refrigerator and turn the defrost timer to defrost.
You will hear a click and the fridg. compressor will stop running. Check frezzer for defrost action, If yes you have a bad defrost timer, no you have a bad defrost heater or thermostat. Post results.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the compressor have to be running in order for it to shut off. There is nothing running no fans, no compressor

Cold control and defrost timer are only items that control compressor and fans.
