Default Push-button control switches for freezer light and fan freeze up
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRS24ZSF
Age: 5 - 10 years

Freezer, ice dispenser and de-frosting mechanism all work well, but somehow ice builds up inside the freezer control box and causes the 2 push-button switches to freeze up. I've had a repair man replace both switches and have also learned to do this myself, but freeze-up re-occurs every few months. I've also tried taping up the edges of control box to reduce moisture build-up, but no luck. There is no frost build-up on any items inside the freezer itself. Thanks for your help.

Are you talking about the switch in the dispenser area.

Here is a link to your fridge model FRS24ZSF.

Thanks for getting back to me. These switches are located at the top of the freezer area and are only visible when the door is open. They are activated when the door is opened and closed.

There could be an air leak under the left corner trim.

Remove the trim and pack the area with permagum.

Permagum is a special putty like stuff that is used in refrigerators.

You can get it at any refrigeration supply outlet.

This should take care of the frosting in the switch panel.

Sheila, Good suggestion.

I originally thought it must be moisture getting into the control unit so I had tried taping all the edges I could get to. Because this unit has been opened up several times already, whatever seal it might have had is gone. Permagum sounds like the solution. Thanks for your help.
