Default Procedure to replace shelf support stud
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED20TKXDW01
Age: More than 10 years

The Shelf Support On The Right Side Of The Top Crisper Bin Broke Off. I Can Locate The Part# 4388538. When I Tried To Remove The Existing One It Appeard As If It Was Glued In. Both The Parts Shown In The Parts Display Show A Screw In And A Push In.

Does Anyone Know How To Remove The Broken One And Replace It With A New One?

Thanks

Your support is one that is removed by twisting out.

It has little metal arms that hold it in place.

Here is a link to your part.Appliance ED20TKXDW01

Thanks, I kinda figured that out after I muscled it out. When I tried to twist the new one in, it didn't twist far enough that it was firmly in place. I got it in so that it supports the shelf and bin, but it seems loose.

Is there a specific direction that it should be twisted? I don't want to break it or damage the existing hole. I used plyers, would you recommend a wrench?

The stud should be installed in the clock wise direction.

Pliers should have worked just fine.

Just a little more detailed info. I just did this on my Kenmore/Whirlpool.

To remove the old one, with a pair of pliers, twist the old one clockwise about a quarter turn. It will now pull out.

To install the new one, insert it in the hole and with a pair of pliers, twist it clockwise a full turn. It will be locked snugly in place.

Yes, turn it clockwise BOTH for removing and installing.
