Default Possible defroster issue?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: Americana (A3315)
Age: 1 - 4 years

Few days ago, I noticed whatever was in the back part of freezer was glowing orange hot (while things were frozen). I figured that it was not a good sign, so I unplugged it about 30 mins and powered it back up again. Since that time, nothing works except a light blub.

Before I call a repair person, can someone help me pin point to what the issue can be? From what I can tell, it seems like the defroster (thing that is hot behind the freezer) that malfunctioned that cause entire thing to not work at all.

This is Americana (GE) A3315ABRFRWW

Thanks!

The orange glow was the defrost heater it is normal for it to glow when in the defrost cycle.

It would have shut itself off after a bout 20 to 25 minutes.

There is also a thermostat that shut the heater off if the fridge is defrosted before the timer has run through the 25 minutes.

What has likely happened is the timer is stuck in the defrost cycle.

In the control panel of the fridge locate the defrost timer knob, it will be between two screws.

Turn this knob slowly until the compressor starts up.

You will likely need a new timer.

Here is a link to your fridge model A3315ABRFRWW.
