Question POP sound every time the Fridge shuts-off
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: TFX27PFX
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,
I own a GE fridge model TFX27PFXAAA. It has been working for about 10 years without any problems. Lately it is making a loud POP sound everytime it shuts-off. It seems to be coming from the compressor area. I notice there is an attachment to the compressor, which is the start relay and overload unit. My guess is that itmay be the problem. If any one with more knowledge could confirm it, or to guide me to find the problem and how to corrected will be highly appreciate it.

How do you remove these parts?
Thanks!

Is this a popping sound or a clunk?

In a lot of compressors as they get older the springs inside the compressor get weak and the motor hits the side of the compressor when they shut off.

To remove the relay and overload just pull them off.

Here is a link to your fridge model TFX27PFXAAA.

Well I guess the sound will be more like "clunk".
Could I replace the compressor with a different LRA? The compressor I have is made by Matsushita Electric, model DA86C15RBU6, 115V, 60HZ and 15.4 LRA. Can I have it replaced it with a compressor made by Embraco, model EGY 60HLP, 115-127V, 60HZ, 9.3LRA?

Thanks for your help.

The replacement compressor for your fridge does not give any details on the make.

It may be an Embraco.

Unhappy My fridge is doing the same thing

Did you fix yours? What is the problem? Mine is also a GE fridge, about 6+ yrs old, and it has just started making a large clunk after shutting off. It sounds expensive....

Compressor replacement too expensive for this old of a fridg.
Remove compressor mount clips and tilt compressor one way or another till the noise goes away. Now just shim it up permanently.
