There are 3 pins on the compressor where the relay/overload attach.Check any two in combination with an ohm meter.if circuit open ony any combination, compressor is open[bad]

Unhappy

Warranty is up. 300 plus 3 hr labor is going price. The unit stopped working after a storm blew main ground off house also damaged other appliances wash machine had open fuse and motor on it but warranty covered these.

Should I be checking the motherboard(where is it?) or anything else. Does the open circuit stop at the compressor. Are other things damaged in line before or after possibly. I dont know anything about fridge repair but I'd like to hope the cheaper parts to repair would be hit by surge before the compressor like a fuse? and I dont have funds to pay someone to fix for me.Seems like parts are really crammed in there hard to get more than one hand in.

Do you recommend I start with compressor test, I've been told the main or motherboard could be bad replace it and then find out the compressor is still bad. I dont know where to start.

didnt realize you had power surge.very possible board is bad .very hard to determine what may have been damaged from your electrical problem.you may want to call in a qualified tech to check thoroughly.board is located in back of unit under metal cover. This board controls most functions of the refrig and very sensitive to surges
