Default Overload relay kicking in and out
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MSD3654FRQ
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Maytag Model mentioned above that begin defroasting and basically stopped cooling. I pulled the back cover off and clean the components thoroughly.
The overload relay box connected directly to the compressor is kicking in and out continuously.
When I first plugged the unit in this morning, the compressor sounded like it was running....could hear fluid moving. After about 3 to 5 minutes the overload relay assembly box beganned to kick in and out.

Any help?

All the fans motors are running fine. Let me say that the compressor surely seems to get pretty hot, but I really don't know if that normal hot or not.

7/31/07....Thanks for the feedback. I ordered two parts Sunday evening. The overload relay that attaches to the compressor and the Start up capacitor.
I figured that was two fairly cheap replacement parts that I could easily change myself. Also, I notice Sunday while attempting to evaluate the problem, I could see a spark flash inside the Overload relay. So the internals maybe burnt.....will keep you posted

08/03/07 Guys,

I solved my own problem by changing out the overload/Run relay and the start-up capacitor on my Maytag. This solved the problem. The compressor was fine and the refrigerator is operating. Best 70 bucks I've spent in a long time
The parts are very easy to change yourself. Safety tip....Just be sure to unplug the unit before you begin working.
Good Luck

I think you and i may have the same thing going on, I have an Amana fridge doing the same thing. I replaced my overload relay and that really did nothing. Read what the tech said on my post and see if that helps you (Amana (Maytag) fridge noise). I ordered the part on Friday so I will find out soon.
