Default Old Refrigerator Freezes Everything
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: Unreadable
Age: More than 10 years

My friend Kris has an old (circa 1960?) Hotpoint refrigerator that she loves. It has started freezing everything inside, regardless of the setting. What's wrong? And how do I find the part if I can't read the model number? Help me fix this. I'm sure she would be very grateful to me (hint, hint).

Jim

It is the cold control that is faulty.

If you have a place in your area that sells appliance parts they may have a control that will work.

Take the old one with you because the length of the capillary tube is important.

When installing the new one make sure you do not damage the capillary tube.

Do you have coils in the fridge section that ice up? If so check the frost pattern, if not completely frozen over, you have a freon leak or a worn compressor.
If self defrosting with a freezer fan, pull panel out in freezer and check frost pattern.
If only partial frost, you also have a refigerant leak or worn compressor.
