you mention that it is 7 years old. sad to say, you will be needing a refrigeration equipment to repair that kind of trouble. the compressor probably loose compression, oil at evaporator, or leak on system tubing. but i'm sure the compressor is the culprit and if that is the fault, better not to service it, just replace it with newer brand.

if your kid just forgot to close the door of you ref, then the trouble will be oil in system tubing, if compressor overworked, it will discharge oil in your system. oil will block the evaporator function , to get the heat on freezer and send it to condenser. it will not get cold for sure, ask the tecnician if the compressor is still discharging oil, if it still discharge oil, even the system tubing was cleaned of oil,, later on same trouble will occur. make it sure you see for your self no oil coming out from dischage line of compressor.
