Default Noisy ice maker
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SXD26V
Age: More than 10 years

Just found this web site searching for info on my problem.

This is a side by side with water, crushed ice, and ice cubes through the door. The fridge is in excellent condition and freezes/cools well.

About 6 months ago, a grinding/rattling noise started coming from the freezer side and I believe it's the ice maker. Part number PS172234 is the ice maker that fits it (I think) but don't want to order it if it's not needed. It still makes ice with no problems, just the noise. Do you think the ice maker needs to be replaced? If so, can/will someone provide a link for the procedure? PartSelect has the maker for $104; are there any cheaper places?

Finally, the water through the door has always been slow. Is that a common problem?

Do you hear the noise all the time or is there something you do that causes it to start and when does it stop if it stops.

That's a pretty standard price on line. You might want to call a local appliance parts store. Some time they're less and no shipping if you pick it up. Here's some customers descriptions of their installation. Scroll down to see it. Partselect.com - Maytag Refrigerator Parts And All Brands of Appliance Parts

No, I don't hear it all the time; just occassionally.
